PPE for Safe Mississippi

Since the early days of the coronavirus outbreak, researchers have been studying how long it can live on various surfaces, from cardboard to stainless steel.  As we’ve learned, the novel coronavirus is primarily a respiratory illness and is believed to spread via droplets from an infected person's coughs or sneezes. It might also be transmitted on objects if you grab something that has enough virus particles on it then touch your face. This growing body of research has been used to help guide recommendations on how the public can protect themselves from COVID-19.

Face masks, particularly surgical masks and N95 respiratory masks, have been in high demand — and short supply —since the outbreak. BlackRidge Healthcare, A division of BlackRidge Holdings, has leveraged strategic partnerships in an effort to appropriately and conveniently, provided products to institutions, nursing homes, hospitals and schools that work to detect, prevent and reduce the pandemic known as COVID-19.

Previous research found that the coronavirus can live on copper for 4 hours, on cardboard for 24 hours, and on plastic for three days — but the lifespan of the coronavirus is also impacted by various factors such as temperature and humidity.

What Is COVID-19?

COVID-19 Disease, a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person, is caused by the SARS Cov-2 virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2). The virus, SARS Cov-2, is a new coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China, but has now spread throughout the world.

PCR Testing for COVID-19?

SARS Cov-2 test performed at our affiliates labs is a FDA approved PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test. The assay is a real time (RT-PCR) in vitro diagnostic test intended for the qualitative detection of RNA from SARS-Cov-2. The virus is isolated and purified from oropharyngeal (OP) and deep nasal swab specimens obtained from individuals who meet COVID-19 clinical and/or epidemiological criteria. The process is a qualitative test for the detection of the coronavirus of the SARS-Cov-2 RNA during the acute phase of infection.

  • PCR testing is considered the gold standard for viral detection

  • Accuracy with PCR Testing:

  • Process is standardized for all microbes.

  • Because of a specific sequence can be amplified greatly, much less clinical material is needed to make

a diagnosis

  • Identifies causative organisms SARS Cov-2 by its RNA- which makes it possible to diagnosis infections accurately.

  • Reliable diagnosis (High sensitivity & Specificity)>95% sensitivity >95% specificity

  • Reliable results are dependent on adequate specimen collection, transport, storage & processing.

  • Negative results do not preclude SARS-Cov-2 infection & should not be used as the sole basis for patient management decisions. Negative results must be combined with other clinical observations, patient history, & epidemiological information.

  • Minimal specimen requirements- Transport: Hologic Aptima multi-test Deep Nasal or Oropharyngeal swab & biohazard bag.
